Default Plastic cog needed

Hi
I am repairing a Panasonic radar radio with auto tuning!
Has a motor which drives through a gearbox the variable capacitor.
When a station is found it stops.
The centre gear has split. I have tried gluing with special plastic super glue without success.
I have attached pics showing the dims, does anyone know where I might get one please?
It's a D shape shaft it sits on.

Cheers
Pete

I can see references to Panasonic Radar Matic, is that what it is?
What's the actual model number?

Try a model shop for a gear but it won't have the D shaped hole - you'll have to file that to suit. take the old one with you to test for size and tooth fit.

Hi Goldenoldie,I found a very good source of gears from a company called Pendle Slot Racing based in Lancashire. You will find them on the internet and they cater for the model racing car fraternity. They supply plastic and metal gears of all different shapes and sizes as well as other model related items. Have a look at their online catalogue where I'm sure you will find what you need. Peter.

Thank you from me also, Peter. I'm after a similar gear to repair the tuning cap on a Grundig music centre! Will give them a look up.

I needed a plastic cog for my KB Discomatic, someone supplied me with a "3D printed" one, it looked a bit rough but it worked just fine. see the damaged one here https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=131587 and the replacement can be seen on post #24.
My one on the discomatic had a round hole for the shaft but one with a D shaped hole can be printed.

Thanks for the offer Ken
Almost right ,if only it had more teeth
I could have reduced the dia but I guess
Not having the right number if teeth will be an issue ?

Sorry, no idea, guess it all depends on the exact design, slop etc. I do have a 16 teeth one but 8.5mm dia. Nothing quite right ! Everything I have seems the same pitch.

If you find a cog, is there an underlying fault that caused the tooth to break?

This seems to be common with iThings. Just make a second post and one of the mods will merge them. Makes it easier to view multiple images.

I think the cog broke because it's mounted on a metal shaft and the nylon has shrunk.
I've seen this before on Walkmans

Plastic cogs do not have a very long life if the mechanism leaves any spring tension on them in the "parked" position.
I once fixed a cheap glue gun trigger that had a spring hooked over a plastic peg.
I passed a hot nail through the casing from outside and built the inside up with epoxy and for safety covered the cropped end of the nail on the outside with a little bit more epoxy.
