Dynatron Cordova sound cutting out.
Hello everyone,
I have a beautiful Dynatron Cordova record player that looks and sounds wonderful but it has a problem. Ever since I acquired it, it has played well for about four minutes then the sound cuts out. I thought it might have been a cartridge problem as the cartridge was old, so I bought a new sonotone cartridge. Sadly the problem persists. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem? I really would like to get this working properly if possible. P.S I am not electronically savvy so beginner terms please...lol. |

Re: Dynatron Cordova sound cutting out.
I think it’s a transistor amplifier, if so the output transistors could be overheating but there are all manner of faults that can cause your players problem.
It requires electrical testing and fault finding, there will be soldering and use of small hand tools. If you are not wanting to go that far you could place an advert in the request repairs section.

Re: Dynatron Cordova sound cutting out.
Thank you Frank for the reply.
I am familiar with small tools as I used to make a lot of jewellery. Bit out of practise with soldering but that will soon come back, I hope.lol. I suspect that electronics soldering is slightly different from jewellery making where we use a torch rather than an iron, but we can only try. Fault finding is a different matter. I guess I will need a multi meter before I can even try that. Your suggestion of the request repair section may be my best option. I will try there and see what they say. Thanks again Frank. |

Re: Dynatron Cordova sound cutting out.
How long ago did you buy the "new" Sonotone cartridge as these are no longer made?

I say "NEW" it was new to me. I did not mean to mislead, sorry.
I bought it from ebay and it was old shop stock. Also it was not cheap either, £30 plus. |

Re: Dynatron Cordova sound cutting out.
Do any of the switches or volume control knobs cause it to cut out?
If so they might need cleaning with Servisol. |

Re: Dynatron Cordova sound cutting out.
There are no problems with any of the switches, no crackles or anything.
It seems to work perfectly for 3 to four minutes with great tone and volume and everything working as it should, then the sound just cuts out completely. It's such a great looking player and sounds great it's a pity it has this problem. I will add a few pics tomorrow and maybe I can add a video of the problem too. |

Re: Dynatron Cordova sound cutting out.
This could be a problem on the amplifier's power supply side, the output transistors or an intermittent connection to that replacement cartridge - or more. To eliminate the cartridge, try another signal source e.g. a radio, via the Hacker's auxilliary input and see whether this too cuts out.

Broken tone arm wiring perhaps?
