Fidelity 4-40
Picked up one of these a while ago for free in really good condition. Thanks to Grahams (radiocruncher) live stream a couple of weeks ago, I stripped it down, got the deck going again after a cleanup, changed the belt on the cassette deck, new stylus and gave it all a good scrub. All working well apart from the right channel is well down and sounds awful. It was like this before and even after cleaning the sliders....still as bad.
Would this be the Amp I am guessing but not totally as the LH channel is fine? I'm a newbie on the electronics side of things and usually buy old audio which need a good clean and simple fixes. I'd like to finish this off as appreciate it was never going to be hifi standard, it's all in really good nick and doesn't sound at all bad for a Fidelity from the 70s! Thanks in advance. |

Re: Fidelity 4-40
If the RH Channel is poor on all inputs then it is highly likely to be a fault in the RH channel amplifier section. It could be the power rail to it, a poor connection or the Chip itself. Can you use a mulii-meter and take voltage readings?

Re: Fidelity 4-40
I'd be grateful for that Big Jim - PDF I presume?
That would be really handy and I'll certainly be repairing it. Only other thing I have noticed is one of the lamps (tuning) is dim so I'll be looking to replace that. |

The service information for this music centre is in R&TVS 1980-81 p498. I can scan it for you when I return from Punnetts Town radio meet later today, or tomorrow.

Re: Fidelity 4-40
As Jim mentioned the System 660, there’s one online auction now, I’d go for it but it is pick up SE England. I remember lusting after this in about 1980!
ADC direct drive deck, Shure cartridge FM presets and 35 WPC RMS and so stylish. |
