Default Philips GR808: Lights, action but no sound

Hi
Recently acquired lovely 808.
Switches on, turn table turns and lights come on but not sound coming to speakers.
Is there perhaps an internal fuse that may have blown?
Any ideas welcome.
Steve

You may be lucky Steve, worth a look with the mains off of course.Though normally there is just one fuse on the mains side which if everything else is ok may well be a component(s) failure.

Have you tried this with another external signal source (Radio or Tape) to check that the amplifier is still working? If not, can you hear any sound, say a light hum or hiss, from the speakers at maximum volume?

Haven't tried this. Do you mean via one of the two DIN sockets? If so which one is used?

Well, either depending if you have a radio or tape player with suitable connections.
But, and as previously suggested, if you put your ear right next to each of the speakers, with the volume at maximum and the balance control centred, and with no signal source selected, can you hear any sound at all - I mean like a hiss?
