Yes... it could well be the lone survivor of its kind, let's hope due care is taken of it wherever it goes. Poupard & Co. Ltd. and their Thermion trade mark are listed in the 1933 Broadcaster Trade Annual but not in the 1934 edition, so presumably had succumbed by then: the set looks to be from 1931-2 to me.

It looks as if a different chassis may have been fitted judging by the spare holes in the front...Peter

Yes I wondered about those holes.......I didn't look inside as the back is held on by several screws and I wasn't in the mood to faff about with something I didn't want to bid on but if it doesn't sell and gets re-entered in the next auction I might take a squint.

The Thermion didn't sell last time and is offered again as lot 122 in next Monday's auction - May 14th.

Re: Another Interesting Lot at lewes Auction on Monday
It all looks suitably 1932ish to me, and without any particular resemblance to the sets of any major manufacturer that comes to mind, but for the mains transformer not being so very unlike a Murphy one. I'm wondering what they've put in that large black painted rectangular can. Definitely intriguing, but far enough away to be safe from my attentions for good or ill...

Re: Another Interesting Lot at lewes Auction on Monday
My best guess too. It just looks a bit larger than I'd have thought it would need to be, and I think pre-dates EMI's first exercises in hiding most of a set's capacitors in a can. Further, EMI's motive of discouraging attempts at service by anyone other than their approved dealers wouldn't seem obviously applicable to a manufacturer like Poupard & Co.: and it would surely be easier to leave the capacitors out of a big can than to put them in one. Can't think of much else that's likely to be there, though...

And the coils look decidedly 1945+ to me and look a little lost in the can bases (covers missing I guess).
