Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
The site is in my list of favourites after a post some time ago on here.
http://radio.garden/settings/introduction Although I have not used it for a while it was there for the times I heard a DX broadcast station on the radio and wanted to try and find it and hear what it should sound like in the clear. Unfortunately I am now finding that it is blocking me when i try to listen to radio sites outside the UK, which is a shame. Anyone know of an alternative? Adrian |

Not sure what the problem is your end, but I can click on stations around the world from here (Oz) without any problems.

I noticed this as well, seems to be related to a court case.

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
I tried 'tuning-in' a few months ago and there was a much larger apology page that popped-up telling us there was a temporary issue with accessing stations outside of the UK. Not so sure now....

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
OK I have just seen the statement in the settings page, but it does not mention a court case, but I could imagine someone in the UK being over zealous about something?
Guess if I used a VPN I could get around it, but it does seem a shame. Any clues on the court case, who why, when? Adrian |

My pop up blocker must stop that but I have read the same in the settings menu a few minutes ago, it just seems strange and I wonder why?

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
I think this relates originally to a court case with a service called TuneIn, some commentary and the court case link below:
https://swling.com/blog/2020/09/tune...t-radio-users/ https://mediawrites.law/wp-content/u...1/judgment.pdf The case seemed to hinge on deciding if an aggregator specifically targeted a UK audience. |

That's the first I'd heard about this. My Google Nest Mini smart speaker is still streaming NPR from the US via TuneIn without problems

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
So down to money then with Sony and Warner! Blocking the internet and it is going around to others providing lists.
I seem to be able to click on the three dots at the bottom near the [player, go to the web site and in some instances play live music, just an extra few clicks. I just think sometimes in the UK we act selfishly, that's progress I suppose. Never mind. better restrict what I think and write. Adrian |

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
Radio Garden are simply taking the easiest route by geofencing the UK given the TuneIn judgment. We're not important enough to them for them to take financial risks.

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
I suppose it's follow the money as usual Is or was there anything particularly special about RG? I've not listened to "off shore" stations for a while but this thread prompted me to pull in the excellent Jazz and Blues community radio station in New Orleans, WWOZ [OZee as americans say-not the Wizard of!] They were playing an amazing blues version of St James Infirmary by Henry Red Alan-thanks Adrian

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
For me it was easy to think of an area of the globe and have a click around to listen in.
When looking at DX stations, also armed with the SW schedules, RG made it a bit easier to find something I could hear on the radio. It had been a while since I used it so was just surprised. Adrian |

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
As I understand it, the TuneIn judgment stated that TuneIn (and by implication, all internet streaming aggregators) should be considered to be broadcasters rather than search engines or simple lists of URLs. This is typical of the kind of bonkers decision made by clueless lawyers trying to understand how the internet works.
The decision seems to have had a chilling effect on small aggregators like RG, who understandably don't want to get clobbered with fines or even jail time. |

The Lawyers only do what they see fit to fill up their bank account. The greedy Royalty organisations are totally behind all the censorship.

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
A couple of years ago in a programme on BBC Radio 4 where they were discussing feedback from listeners, an overseas listener had complained that some of the BBC's programmes were not available via internet radio. It was explained that those programmes had been made by independent producers and that the BBC only had the right to broadcast them in the UK. A consequence of the BBC having been ordered to outsource the production of a significant proportion of their programmes, and having to pay royalties for each repeat broadcast.

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
It's a great shame about restricting access to non-UK radio stations. I hope they have a rethink about it.
A quick check and the two Falkland Islands stations are working as are the five Gibralter stations. Checking some of the other UK dependencies such as St Helena, the British Virgin Islands and Cyprus wasn't so fruitful. Something is odd about the search facility. Initially, I had the Gibralter stations working. Later on, when I tried searching for the Gibralter stations, a red circle was placed around them specifying that non-UK stations are not available. A subsequent search again and they were available. It seems some of the UK dependencies are still available. A small crumb of comfort I guess. Regards, Symon |

Re: Radio Garden site blocking non UK stations.
What can and cannot be accessed will depend on the IP addresses, which are allocated on a geographic basis. I imagine that Gibraltar and the Falklands use British IPAs.
