Summer of Rockets BBC2 Set ID
This excellent new Poliakoff Cold War series has a bedside radio, 10mins in, that is sort of louvred and looking more like a heater plus [at 30 mins] a cabinet television [shut the doors and it's invisible] plus some sort of radio record player in the same room which looked a little out of place. I should stress that I'm not looking for/expecting absolute period accuracy [it's a Drama] more identification-especially the bedside Radio. Is it continental? They are an immigrant family! Highly recommended-female friendly [I have wife and daughter approval] and only two episodes in so there may be more on the technical front!

The radio in the picture looks to me like a Bush VHF90.

The TV in the picture looks like an Ekco TCG 316, or an Ekco TC315.

Re: Summer of Rockets BBC2 Set ID
The tv is an Ekco, with out a doubt.I believe the radio had a long name above the dial that I could not make out on this excellent series.

Re: Summer of Rockets BBC2 Set ID
Yes that's the Radio Peter but the Louvred effect is more obvious in the second photo [nice image] and in a scene where it's next to the woman whose sitting up in bed, giving me the impression that it was perhaps unusual or East European to match the family's origin. The father is making a feature of being able to have a "large" [especially for the time] TV screen but also the ability to disguise it to meet his wife's request. We forget, now, that this may have been an important, class based, factor in some households-like people in the UK who claimed to only watch BBC when ITV started. What I thought was maybe a Radio/RP is to the right in that second scene with the TV! I didn't mention the initial overall electronics theme re hearing aids in Ep 1 [I should have said that's the episode I'm referring to] or the radio confiscated in school by a teacher far less intelligent than his pupil.

And here is the radiogram offered as a prize at the fete in episode 2. Looks like a Philips.

Re: Summer of Rockets BBC2 Set ID
My wife spotted that RG at the strange Summer Fair [with only one child present] while I was starting a different recording. I'm fascinated by both the social and technical themes in this production. The audio aids/the disabled workers/ the staff locator/bleeper now attracting the interest of the Military/the intractible MI5. Poliakoff always has a very specific way of blending themes together [very much aided by the music on the soundtrack]. Sometimes it shouldn't work so well but it always does!
