Default 1973 radiogram, as-new inside!

hello everyone

Just scored an old 1973 radiogram. It was covered in the usual water stains and dust etc, but on opening the cabinet lid the amp and changer whilst dusty looked very good. Got it home took the back off to 'invite' the spiders to vacate before bringing it in and was very surprised to see how new it all looks. Check out the deck and main chassis, kinda looks new!

Thought you'd like to see how things looked when new in '73

Cheers
Joe

Yes I had a strange Radiola built in 1976, could find no info about it other than Radiola released the same model in 1966, but mine had a cassette player fitted where the 66 model had a flat space for records. it was all totally legit with an official wiring diagram inside showing the cassette player components. Funny thing it had valves as well! I reckon they just reprised the 66 model with a "new fangled" cassette player but left the chassis/amp as valves. Surely one of the last mass produced valve radiograms in the world!

That 'newness' is not untypical of sets built as 'recently' as 1973. Cleaner homes, electric/gas fires and central heating (no smoke), vacuum cleaners etc etc.

The cylindrical IF cans look like those used by Pye in their UK made sets up until the mid to late '50s.

Can the OP be quite sure it comes from as "late" as 1973? The type of autochanger used may help date it more conclusively.

Well impressed.

Some old stuff does last well.

This is what's under my Philips 308 turntable, I bought in 1972.
Everything in perfect working order.

Just the foil label on the motor, not quite stuck down all the way round.

It's paired with my 1976 Leak 2000 tuner amp and early 1970s Sharp cassette deck.

and my two 1972 Goodmans speakers. Only the Leak I haven't had from new.

It's a well known model built between 67 and 75, and handily they always print a date on the transformer which is typically a couple of months before it left the factory. The Garrard deck is totally right for this model

But your post got me thinking, is there any way to tell from the Garrard (or even BSR) serial number an approx date/year of manufacture of the deck? Does such a lookup exist?

Really need the model number, not serial.

Thanks, that helps. Well they were certainly pre-1973 having come out in 1966 and discontinued by mid-1969.

It's all about balance isn't it?

The cartridge is a Sure M75 EJ, worked fine for decades. What do you expect from a fifty year-old turntable?

You don't need "moon rocket terchnology" to play records.

The headshell on those is very light black plastic, the aluminium being just a very thin trim attached with adhesive.

Shame, was hoping it was hewn from a single billet aluminium block! Despite my disappointment I'm still gonna look out for one of these

Wow that is strange. Could Kriesler (a big radiogram manufacturer here) really have stock piled 4 years of 1025t decks? seems unlikely, but every one of these models I've seen has always had the 1025t in it (I haven't knowingly seen one from 74 or 75 yet though)
