Default Indicator 6a unit restoration

Well after two years work this is my fully restored indicator 6A unit, part of the Rebecca / Eureka homing and approach aid as fitted and used by the RAF in World War II.

It was in a very sorry state when I found it on Ebay, in July 2010. Apart from being a very rusty chassis most of the original components had been removed. After lots of searching I gradually found replacement parts and re-built the chassis as I found them. This piecemeal assembly, and the fact that I only had a wiring diagram to work from, explains the rather rats-nest look of the wiring.

Does it work? Now there’s a question. It works in so far as, the valve heaters light up and the set gets warm. I have not attempted to build an HT power supply for the CRT, as this unit is only part of the Rebecca / Eureka system and as such would not work on its own anyway. As such I though it was not worthwhile to introduce the 1800 volts it needs just for the sake of it.

There is a description of the ASV showing a working 6a (scroll down on the home page).
