Default Can you identify this record player?

This has been in my loft for about fifteen years. It did work once but the turntable now needs attention. What looks like the maker's label stuck to the inside of the lid is missing and there is nothing inside the case to identify.

The turntable is a Garrard RC120/4H fitted with a (probably) unoriginal GP91-1 cartridge. The amplifier has a single UCL83 valve. There is a mains transformer, isolating the amp from the mains. The output transformer is mounted on the back of the speaker.

Any ideas?

Not sure of the model but it looks like an Amplion.

Yes, I agree an Amplion from late 1956 or 1957. A good job it's a 2 stage model should you ever need a new cartridge. The existing (replacement) GP91-1 stereo-compatible is a good match for the UCL83. The well made Garrard autochanger is not the easiest to fix, but there is good advice in the Stickys above.

Thanks Lawrence and Edward. The date on the large electrolytic is May 1957, so a good match for 1956-7.

I'll have a read of the stickies and try and get the turntable working again. The motor is fine, the platter turns but the cartridge arm remains locked in its rest position, regardless of whether the deck is set to Manual or Auto.

The arm will not move when the control is set to "Auto" unless there are records loaded on to the spindle, ready to drop. When the control is set to "Manual" the arm will rise from the rest, and after a few seconds, drop back onto the rest, but should then be free to lift by hand on to the record.
