Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
Why is it when you look at something you notice it is wrong - the board is wired correctly I just drew it wrong - here is the detail of my use of the three position switch: I.e. the Center (R/W and Pullup) connects to neither (in the middle) one side to GND (when pushed DOWN in reality) and one side to NWDS.

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
Hopefully the above helps - one thing I did notice when I was routing the Flags and Serial is that the Serial is the wrong end on the LED's - I think maybe a trace must go under the CPU behind F1 and F2 and under the link from F0 to present it that end... You had not got that far on the last one you showed. I am getting this layout from the Box picture at SunMoonStars and its labels. He labels it as SENSE which did not make sense (no pun intended). As SENSE A is interrupt I wondered if he showed the status of the SA switch there? Can't see how to route it though looking quickly as it would have to cross the data bus - so I am sure he just labelled it wrong.

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
No the wiring on the original is correct that is just ME on my veroboard - just use the one from the original DJD article so that PROTECT and LOAD switches are as original - that design is unique to my Prototype

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
On the circuit above the Pin numbers hand written in RED are the ones for the PCB - the black ones are the ones I used so ignore.

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
You are correct it is messy - here is what I think is the final labelled diagram for the PCB version with the correct Pin numbers

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
I had been thinking I would write a manual and short technical history - I will see what I can do!

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
I presume in your diagram the top end of R3 is connected to pin 5 of the 555 (CHARGE)

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
No it is connected to pin 4 and 8 as in the label. Pin 5 CTRL has a small capacitor to Ground although that seems to be absent on the schematic from DJD or indeed on the board. I have put one on mine.

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
Ah sorry I didn't read the label as being associated with the resistor.

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
Looking really good - perhaps a little cramped above IC5 to put the links across? The real board has more room as IC2 is in line with the switches so IC1 can move over a little bit. I assume you have yet to add the Data Bus holes in line with the address ones (as I can see the ones around the IO chips are also yet to be added).
You will have finished this soon. I am doing well on a support document but, I wish I could fix the memory write problem... my 2112 chips are still "stuck in transit" according to FedEx... |

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
Hello I correct it is a long work all by hand without highway keeping the spirit pcb artisanal of the time rounded tracks brief that of the cosmetique
I also have to replay the pcb on kicad because the text is not in the right direction see SCRUMPI upside down and the switch text good I must also thicken the tracks more work to do |

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
Yes I am in awe of the work you are putting in to draw this PCB as so authentic - it is a massive amount of work on your part and really appreciated that you want such attention to detail.
Hopefully we can make a good manual and programming guide to go with it once I get my memory working. Here is a draft of the booklet see what you think. TheSoulOfAnOldMachineDRAFTv0.pdf |

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
really great this document
verified the list R4 R5 reversed see photo 74c04 or 74c07? I received the memory AM9112 I wait for the switches and led with resistance included may be that this virus ..... had served to bring men closer together |

Re: Recreating the Bywood Scrumpi
It has certainly given many people more time to spend on interesting projects like this.
Tim, very nice draft document but I have barely been involved in this thread so you can probably remove me from the 'credits'. This is definitely your and Phil's 'baby', with useful contributions from Slothie. All I've done is grumble about how primitive the system is. Looking forward to seeing the finished article though.
