Default Bush TR82 battery

Probably the most extreme case of battery corrosion I have ever seen. To make matters even worse, two more were stored in there rather than being disposed of.

Guinness book of records? Probably the worst I have seen but the chassis looks in good condition in spite of it.

I've seen similar on some Ray-O-Vac SP11 cells which dated from about 1960. Beneath the corrosion, you could just manage to read the word... "LEAKPROOF"

I see that yours has lost a push button rod from the wavechange switch. Mine was the same with corrosion and damp rusting the switch mechanism away.
I also had rust and rot a third of the way up the case as the radio had been stood in water for a long time.
With a new speaker fitted, it worked!

Those batteries are probably leak proof now that they are empty.

Still good sets these old Bush.

Yes Sam, I was able to repair the original plastic push rod coupler with hot melt glue. It only has to work in compression so is amply strong.

A matched pair! Must be worth more than two singles.
Yes the problem is general fumes from decomposing batteries causing O/C output transformers, IF coils, rotted valve holders and low Q frame aerials.
The TR82 is a tough boy and should be workable. John.

Watch out for rotted transistor wires which are common when these have been badly stored. It's an easy job to replace any bad ones though.
