Default Re: Favourite stations / programmes?

At the very beginning of my interest in electronics and radio, I built a two transistor AM headphone radio ugly-style on a wooden breadboard, and, as an insomniac teenager, spent many a night listening to (Tyneside) Metro radio's late night phone-in, which, at the time, was hosted by a certain James Whale.

I confess I couldn't listen to something like that now, just as I can't watch similar TV programming in the Oprah / Jeremy Kyle format - but at the time it was a good way to pass the boring hours until I felt tired enough to sleep.

My parents didn't understand that I was still wide awake for hours after what they thought was my suitable bedtime, so I couldn't put the light on to read. Luckily for me they didn't recognise my 'clandestine' radio for what it was, so I was able to listen in peace.
