Default Broadcast Engineering Museum - last open day for 2025

Where has the year gone? After a full programme of opening on the first Sunday of the month, we're about to arrive at our last open day for the year on November 2nd.

Details here: https://becg.org.uk/events/

This will be almost 4 years to the day from when our charity - BECG - took ownership of our amazing former RAF sergeants' mess. I usually tell people that it was an RAF mess and it's our mess now! The reality is that in 4 years we've come a long, long way. Our nearly 30,000 sq ft building seems to become smaller and smaller as it fills up with artefacts and exhibits. Bit by bit we've tackled the problem areas in the building. In the beginning we had lots of leaking roofs and almost 200 broken windows. That's now in the past and we're no longer fighting the building other than decorating and making spaces good for more displays. Recently, we replaced three huge (and very heavy) skylights in our transmitter hall area (the former RAF kitchens) and what a difference that's made.

Why not come along and see all this for yourself? We have so much to see now from working broadcast cameras, OB trucks, VTRs, telecines and much more including our new radio/TV shop display.

Visitors who came early on are now amazed how much has been achieved. We're always on the look-out for more help at what is now the largest broadcast museum of its kind in Europe!

Best regards,

Paul M

Default Re: Broadcast Engineering Museum - last open day for 2025

Well, that's a wrap for this year's formal openings!

Many thanks to all our volunteers, friends and visitors. It was another great day with folk from far and wide. All the tech behaved itself and the weather held.

We are still available to open for groups and special cases, so please enquire if that's of interest. Otherwise, that's it until 2026, but in the meantime we will be very busy prepping more equipment, more exhibits and more displays.

Feedback is always welcome - are we on the right lines and what would prospective visitors like to see? Is Sunday the best day?

Best regards,

Paul M
