Smile BVWS special auction at RWB 7th Feb, details

Good afternoon,
January seems to be going rather quick and I am certainly interested in going to the BVWS special auction at RWB on 7th February. Is there any details for the event such as opening times, bring and buy ECT. How does this event compare to the usual RWB meeting? (other than no mince pie )

Many thanks,
Christopher Capener

Info so far is "Auction only event". Presumably 10am start, but haven't seen any more since Christmas.

Hopefully a catalogue will be released in about a week's time...

The catalogues are normally released about a week before the event, so hopefully next weekend. Photos should be available then too, as normal with RWB auctions.

There normally isn't any news on auctions until the week before so this is nothing unusual. I imagine Mike is already busy sorting, photographing and cataloguing - it'll be a big job!

As soon as there is any more news we will post here and on the website.

Hi All,

Paul is certainly right...

I am busy sorting and cataloguing and packing all of the items.

There will be 400 decent auction lots.

There are lots of radios, masses of valves, some very interesting huge transmitter valves, a large quantity of early pre-1920's and 1920's valves, TV's (B&W 405 and some early Colour sets), loads of draws full of components, test gear, Eddystone receivers, R1155's, gramophones, WW radio magazines, valve testers, early light bulbs, novelty radios etc...

I am also photographing anything that is suitable.

All the photos and the catalogue will be sent to Paul in a about a weeks time, so look out on the BVWS website on Saturday 30th.

The doors will open at 9am for viewing and the auction will start at 11am.

The usual hot food and drinks will be available.
The BVWS Capacitor sales table will be running, but no Bring & Buy.

You will need to be a paid up member of the BVWS to transact in the auction so if you need to renew your membership, there is no time like the present.

Mike...

For anyone who has yet to renew their membership and wishes to bid at the auction, it would be most convenient for the Membership Sec. if you could do so before the event.

Otherwise we will be happy to take renewals on the day, but as soon as possible after the 9.00am opening please, as once we get towards auction start time we will be busy on the stage. Please bring your renewal paperwork and find either Martyn Bennett (Mem. Sec.) or myself who will be only too happy to take your money!!

Look forward to seeing you there!

At the last RWB meet I was reduced to sitting on my hands and staying in the kitchen for prolonged periods

Cheers

Mike T,

There's a lovely (very original) Cossor 222 just appeared out of a box from one of the Collections that will be in the Auction.

Hello lee,

Yes Please. Your assistance at the auctions is invaluable, so that would be great. Thanks.

I presume as it's RWB then the lots will be loaded in the night before?
If not and you need help unloading/setting up early on the day then just let me know.

Cheers

Photos of many of the lots are now on the BVWS website here.

The catalogue should be available in the next few hours, and will be added to the website and posted here.

Mike has just phoned. He has no electricity currently, and no estimated time from SSE for power to be restored, so he can't send me the catalogue. As soon as it's back on (or he can find somewhere locally with power and free wi-fi) he will send it.

Hi All,

Well a bit of an eventful day here.
The Village has been overrun with SSE engineers doing their best to locate the power problem and put in a fix.
It all went off just after 8am and it has now come back on just before midnight.

I have now sent the Auction catalogue to Paul, so it will appear very soon.

Here are a few pics showing the excitement.
I knew I should have sorted out the battery problem in my UPS...

For now we are on a large generator and it is wonderful to have a full 240 volts rather than the usual 226 to 230 volts we normally have to endure.

Thanks Paul - if only RWB were closer there are one or two valves I'd kill for.

You could contact Mike about leaving commission bids, then collect at another event closer to your home if you win.

Just a point of info - item 262 is not dual standard but rather single standard 625 line (with VHF & UHF tuners which is the norm in Europe) - this is, I'm afraid, a common heresy that is doing the rounds - I guess it comes from the particular, but unique situation that pertained in Great Britain where VHF was equated with 405 line and UHF with 625 lines - a situation that pertained nowhere else
PS - I'd love if it was a dual standard set but sadly not

Kindest regards
John
