What are the values of these resistors? - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

I have recently been given a Columbia 228 Gramophone that is suppose to be plugged into a radio and I would like to know what the value of these two resistors are.

In the picture it is blue with green on the end and a red stripe in the middle.

And the other resistor that can't be photographe is brown with a yellow stripe and at one end about 1/3 of the capacitor is black.

Looks like these use the Body, Tip, Spot/Stripe colour code.

The Body colour gives the first digit.
The Tip Colour gives the second digit.
The Spot colour gives the multiplier.

So 6500 ohms and 100 kohms.

You could always measure them on a meter.

They look like coloured bands on my monitor - not the body, tip, spot type.

No definitely the first type as suggested by Station X so agree on the values. Note to Jake: If the 6500 ohm (6.5k) resistor is faulty the nearest preferred value available now is 6800 ohms (6.8k). The extra 300 ohms will not make any difference. 100k resistors are available as standard.

They definitely look like banded resitors to me, after making an adjustment to see them more clearly.

Is it a resistor or a capacitor?

Another missing OP? Never mind.
They look like the cheap carbon resistors found in some old ex WD gear. I was never sure what value they are either. Body-tip-spot would seem not to work, they all have brown bodies!

Hello,
I do have an ohm meter but the resistors are from the 1930s so I was using my judgement not to trust them. I relatively new to the hobby and didn't realise that they use the same code as the spot resistors.

There's some disagreement among contributors to this thread, myself included, as to whether these resistors do use the BTS system.

Could you post some clearer pictures please.
