Re: Philips EL3302 Cassette Recorder Date?
Early 'seventies at a guess, although another member here may be able to pin it down more via the serial No? I worked at a Philips regional repair centre during 1973,and we saw many of these remarkable little machines, they were very popular. I still have few parts!!

Yes, the 01 is a revision code. I'm not sure though if 01 means the original version or the first revision after the original version.
But isn't 10 the week number, which would put it sometime in March rather than July? |

Thanks kindly for all your input dating this machine. Now for the joy of removing the goo remains of the drive belts

Re: Philips EL3302 Cassette Recorder Date?
The date code is 910. This would mean 1969, week 10. Older models and models from other factories may use other date formats.

Re: Philips EL3302 Cassette Recorder Date?
The original version is 00. Actually the factory letters are also relevant for the revision. WR01 is the first revision of that particular model from that particular factory (WIRAG). Revision numbers are not guaranteed to be the same between other models with the same construction, other executions of the same model (e.g. /00 , /15) and other factories.

The date format did change in later years but I'm not sure when. When I was at Philips, it was incorporated into the serial number after the version code.

Re: Philips EL3302 Cassette Recorder Date?
This same 3 digit YWW format was incorporated as (usually) positions 5 through 7 in the serial number around 1975 depending on the factory. From roughly 10 years later on, the last two digits of the year were used instead of just the last one: YYWW.
Earlier recorders (up to the mid to late mid 1960's) used a 4 digit date code with the last to digits of the year behind the week number (WW YY e.g. 15 66). Radio and TV sets and parts up to the mid 1960's often had 3 digit date codes with the last digit of the year behind the week number (WWY). Last edited by Maarten; 21st Jul 2019 at 7:40 pm. |
