Some excellent tips there. The idea of making a plug from an old socket by fabricating some pins is particularly good - B8A plugs are almost impossible to find when trying to make valve adapters for something like a UL41.

and here is a quick help to calculate coil data for single layer coils.

to get it exact you need to know roughly how long the coil will become, if you use 0.5mm wire (I tend to do that) it is merely half number of turns. if you use 40#48 litz (for BCB and 160m) you wind 10 turns measure and use that number,

I have just updated the page to include a modification by someone using D plug pins that cuts the contruction time down to 15 minutes

I do like that coil turn calculator Excellent!!!!!

Excellent Ron.

By the way I used a B9G base the wrong way round and inserted pins to make an adapter for the AVO valve tester. Hadn't though of pins from an old D plug though; excellent idea.
