Cetron photomultipliers
How can one test Cetron's range of Photomultipliers such as the CE-A30, CE-A59RX, CE-A459RX, etc. ? They have an Americal Loctal base with pins 1,2,4,6 & 8 seemingly in use.

Re: Cetron photomultipliers
Thanks for the info David. Not knowing anything about photo-electronics, I'm guessing that they are not true photomultipliers in the sense that they don't have a cascade of dynodes. What would these simple anode/cathode devices be used for. I've uncovered some boxes of them, seemingly NOS, mostly with "Blue"(CE-A59RX) or "Red"(CE-A-30) written on them.
Are they rare, as internet prices(from USA) are pretty steep? Regards, David |

Re: Cetron photomultipliers
One example of a use for a photo tube is as part of a smoke density monitor for a marine or industrial boiler.
http://www.steamesteem.com/?steam-bo...questions.html (Click on the link on the left "Smoke Density Monitor".) These days smoke density monitors are likely to be solid state: http://www.shipserv.com/ShipServ/pag...00Brochure.pdf One way to find the price is to advertise them on an auction site. David |

Re: Cetron photomultipliers
I should've twigged earlier - they're used in 35mm Cine Projectors as sound detectors. As also in the box were some NOS Atlas projector lamps. There's me - who did a week-long projectionist course 47 years ago at RAF Stanmore Park. My excuse - I've passed 3 score years & ten.
As I said - I've checked internet prices, eBay prices vary between $45 and overĀ£200, mainly sourced from the USA. Regards, David |

Re: Cetron photomultipliers
They are old cinema sound sensors like these slightly earlier ones.

CETRON Photomultipliers
Any Photomultiplier Experts out there ?
I've discovered a box of mainly boxed NOS Cetron P/M's :- 3 x CE-A59RX's & 13 x CE-A30 (Red) & 1 x CE-A30 (Blue) Does anyone have the IO (International Octal) Pin connections & details of the applied voltage etc. ? Someone on eBay is asking a jaw dropping amount of dollars for a CE-A59RX, and the CE-A30's seem to be worth a bob or two. So don't want to try testing them blind in case I phook them, before trying to flog them. Who would use them these days ? Regards, David |

Re: CETRON Photomultipliers
Silly me - just realised that I put out a thread post on 10th June 2016. Received some helpful reply's.(Now closed).
Must've hidden the box of P/M's away back in 2017, and just re-discovered them during a clear-out this morning. Would still like to know if they are really worth trying to flog ? Regards, David |
