BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
(posted for Chairman Greg)
With Spring finally with us, and New Year's resolutions on projects to be completed, why not make a start and find the bits and bobs you need, and perhaps pick up some new projects as well? Yes, it's Harpenden Swap Meet and Auction time again, on Sunday 3rd March. Doors open 9.30am, (stallholders 9.00am) £5 entry on the door. Auction to start about 1pm, with approx. 300 lots! With many stalls including the Bring & Buy table, you will find a huge selection of vintage goodies, including radio, TV, audio/hifi, communications, spares, valves, test gear, service manuals, ephemera, books and much more! Plus the BVWS table with all the Capacitor values that you need for vintage gear, plus Deoxit, Bulletin back issues and publications/DVD's. ALL ARE WELCOME, if you're not a member, you can come in as a guest and see what we're all about! You can even take the plunge and join on the day (You'll need to be a member to bid in the auction) Debit/Credit card payments taken for memberships, auction and BVWS stall items. Refreshments served throughout the day! See you there! For directions and parking info: http://www.harpendenpublichalls.co.u...ns-and-access/ Here's a video of a recent past event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i2UZBn0pvg See you there... __________________ Greg BVWS committee chairman

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
Just a reminder about how the Bring & Buy works at Harpenden.
We are no longer in the foyer but inside the hall itself, probably on the banked seating area at the back. You can still leave stuff with us during setting up as we'll have a booking-in table in one of the doors to the main hall. There are 2 ways to sell stuff on the B&B. 1: Donation with 100% going to the Vintage Wireless Museum. We also like this because there's no admin for labels, lists etc! 2: Sales with 10% commission to the Museum. If you have more than a couple of items it helps us a lot if you can make a numbered list with prices. With corresponding numbered price labels stuck on the items. We then add a serial letter so that your No 3 is different from another No 3. We can do labeling/listing on the day but it really slows things down at busy times. Please use the attached listing sheet, to help us. We close the B&B when the auction starts (approx 1pm) but if you've sold anything you can collect the proceeds at any time. Please remember to collect unsold items well before the auction starts. You've all been fabulously generous in the past, often raising £400 or more on teh day, so let's hope for another big donation to the Museum this time. See you on the 3rd Jeremy

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
Am I right in thinking that donated items (Option 1 above) must be collected too?

Indeed, if items aren't collected, that leaves someone with the problem of what to do with them! I speak from experience of running the B&B at Golborne.

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
The directed website says there is little on-site parking. How far away is “customer” parking please?
Thanks, Would love to go but it is a bit far for a day trip from Rotherham.... Peter Last edited by Reelman; 23rd Feb 2019 at 7:03 pm. Reason: Addition |

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
There is parking at the front and back of the hall but it fills up quickly. There is normally room on nearby roads (within a couple of minutes walk), and you can move the car closer at the end to load up. There is also a big pay-and-display car park at the railway station, 5 minutes walk away.

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
I presume that we will still need the parking permits from the front office if we wish to park in the rear car park behind the stall.
Many thanks, Christopher Capener

Yes, I believe that you do still need the parking permits if you arrive early and want to park in the rear car park. It fills up quickly. You can park first then go through to the front and get a permit from the manager on duty.
Parking on the roads is free (unless flagged otherwise). - Jeremy

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
Hi All,
A special notice about the Harpenden auction this coming Sunday 3rd of March: The auction catalogue will be sent to Paul for adding here and on the BVWS website some time tomorrow (Wednesday) so look out for it. However it will not be the usual 250 to 300 lots even though the actual auction is still likely to be as usual. We are accepting a second van load of radios etc. from a well known and respected radio collector who is also a forum member here and has been collecting and restoring for many years. I cannot catalogue the items as I have no idea what they actually are until the van turns up on Sunday morning, but knowing the collector in question it will all be good stuff! So we will be very busy on the stage on Sunday morning!!! I hope to see a lot of you there as this is likely to be a very interesting event. Auction start at 1pm Mike...

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
Mike asked me to say that this catalogue, attached, is intentionally short at 180 lots.
There will be a van load of assorted radios etc. arriving on Sunday which will be added to the auction on the day. We have no idea what is turning up until it arrives on Sunday morning but everything is from a well-known and respected collector who is also a member of this forum. |

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
We will get the first 180 items into the hall and set up for viewing and then bring in the new additions from the second van and lot them into the auction in the morning.
The AGM will start at 12 noon and the auction will start at 1pm. There will be plenty of time for you to view the items prior to auction start. Mike...

If anyone wants to meet me in person I will be on the committee,as I am the archivist.
Possibly you may see me wandering around with my Cannon EOS5D around my neck trying to get a few shots. David

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
Sounds like it will be a really good auction, especially the later lots. Shame I can't be there but its too far to travel from Cardiff. Have a great day everyone.

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
Hi All
I will be up to date with all renewals this evening, ready for tomorrows auction at Harpenden. The 2019 membership cards will be arriving soon with the BVWS spring bulletin. You will not need them to register for the auction as your bidding card will be produced from the main database. If you have not already renewed you may do so tomorrow, I will be there with membership packs for new members who wish to join on the day. The AGM starts at 12 noon, hope to see you there. Dave |

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
Excellent day though with a long drive home I left just as the auction started.
Bought a very nice early Bakelite Ekco and a Roberts tranny that Pam fancied for herself. Only met one forum member.

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
Another very enjoyable day out at Harpenden. The auction provided a few new toys, one of which is on the operating table as I type! The B&B provided some early back issues of the Bulletin, in nice binders. And I met a lot of forum members during the day.
The Bring & Buy generated over £500 so thank you all for supporting it so generously, in purchases, donations and commission sales. And a big thank-you to the BVWS team, who had to contend with yet another let-down by the catering company (especial thanks to the emergency catering crew), and were only able to start loading the stage after 8am. Mike and crew worked their usual ballet on stage. Who will forget "Greg Through The Looking Glass" or the two-man lift needed for some items! Next one up is Golborne, then NVCF.... - Jeremy

Re: BVWS Harpenden Sunday March 3rd
Brightened up a dull wet and windy day for me, I came home with a couple of pre-war woodies and very pleased with them too!
My compliments to all the guys that put in so much hard work with these events.
