Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
Here's the rare double-Parabeam which takes advantage of the 'skeleton slot' radiator to couple two Yagis together:

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
Since the reallocation of the top end channels on UHF an amazing number of log periodic aerials have appeared on the rooftops around the Horsham area. The second shows another at Warnham.
This newly installed one, believe it or not is situated 2mins walking distance from the Crystal Palace transmitter. J. |

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
Midhurst and Guildford relay here together with the remains of an old box 8 channel 9 to Croydon or maybe Chillerton Down. Seen on large houses in Cranleigh High St.
The three in a line aerials are wired to separate parts of the house. [Midhurst] J. |

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
This is my favourite TV areal high in the welsh hills near the very remote village of Dylife approximately nine miles north west of Llanidloes. I have always presumed it to be some sort of TV repeater. There is only a small junction box at the base and no sign of cables or another pick up areal that I have found. The farm is the closest building and that is a long way away as I was zoomed in.
Favourite for 2 reasons one it means I am on horseback in the welsh hills and secondarily it means that after a full day of riding we are on the right track and will reach the destination in another hour or so. Pete Last edited by G4_Pete; 29th Jul 2018 at 1:24 pm. Reason: tidyed up |

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
DIY repeaters are common in hilly areas, one aerial pointing to the transmitter another pointing to the village with a masthead amplifier twixt, all powered from a knackered tractor battery. The hill gives enough attenuation to prevent feedback.

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
Went for lunch in Debenhams in Norwich on the 3rd floor and sat near a window, I spotted this aerial on the building opposite, looks like the one my supplier called a BBQ aerial as sideways it would make a good BBQ with the x shaped dipoles good for sticking sausages on LOL, I believe it was good for ghost rejection with the 4 x's in a row on the front with the large reflector. The windows were all sealed shut so the pictures a bit indistinct as the were a bit dirty.

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
I have a smaller version of this aerial in my loft for long distance UHF reception. Very high gained with good ghost or multipath rejection. They are also wideband covering the entire UHF TV spectrum.

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
Those twin loop DER aerials were surprisingly good and wideband. There was one in the loft of my prievous house working well. I had another second hand for experimenting with. I eventually fitted it to the outside wall of a ground floor flat where access to the upper floor walls was unavailable.

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
Nothing illustrates the horrible situation of foliage attenuation more than these pictures taken in Leatherhead Road Chessington today. It was one of the biggest problems for me when we went UHF in 1969.
The houses either side of the problem have normal UHF aerials but the unfortunate two in line with dense tree foliage on the other side of the road are extended on high poles in an attempt to improve the scrambled signal. The trees are dead in line with CP behind. John. |

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
I had a number of customers with similar situations and very difficult to overcome completely if at all.

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
Reception in this situation often became even worse during and after heavy rain when the tree leaves were soaking wet.

Wind was also a nightmare with the swinging branches and leaves. Forget teletext and bringing us up to date, Digital. J.

Oh yes, see what you mean! £2 contractor aerials. Always the mark of a professional and expert installer, that.

Re: Interesting UHF aerials.
Scimitar,
Indeed, the left hand one on the picture probably cost £1.50. I won't speculate on what the customer paid... |
