Technics SLJ110R Help
Hello every one. I bought my first vinyl record a few days ago, and my first turntable yesterday
But I'm having problems. I unlock the arm, press start. I move the arm, I press the lower the arm button, it plays for 1 sec then the arm automatically lifts and moves back then it stops spinning. Then it try to move the arm, but I can feel something is holding it back, not wanting me to move it Any ideas? I would be grateful. |

Re: Technics SLJ110R Help
The operating instructions for this turntable are available from Vinyl Engine - Registration, which is free, is required after which you can access all the information on their site. Basically, if you are using the SLJ110R in Automatic mode, a record must be placed on the turntable before pressing 'Start'. The arm should then automatically move to the start of the record, lower, play said disc, and at the end, lift and return to it's rest. Do not try to force the arm to move.

Re: Technics SLJ110R Help
Thanks for getting back to me, I don't see a way of disabling Auto, even with a record on the turn table the arm does not automatically move to the record but it does almost return.

Re: Technics SLJ110R Help
Hello and welcome.
Check that the "feelers" that sense whether a record is present (and what size it is) are protruding through the apertures in the turntable mat. N (in Wolvercote). |

What is the "IT" you can see moving up & down? If it's the 2 'feelers', both of them will be moving up & down as they're trying to feel what size disc is on the turntable (the smaller 45 rpm or the larger LP 33/3 rpm). If it's the rubber mat which is moving up & down, then the mat is out of position. There are two slots cut out in the mat through which the feelers have to move up & down through to sense the vinyl disc.

Re: Technics SLJ110R Help
To operate the deck manually, set the cueing switch (next to the start/stop switch) to the "up" position, move the tonearm to the required position (the platter should start to turn) then set the cueing switch to the "down" position.

Hey Tom thanks, I have now tried this it starts to play then stops after a second, if I press play again the arm starts to move feels like a massive spring pulling it back in to place

As Livewire has already advised, most of the information you require will be in the Operating Instructions (available from Vinyl Engine) and they're only a few clicks away.

Re: Technics SLJ110R Help
That isn't helpful to me.
I'm looking to fix a mechanical fault, so if its a Dead cap or I need to apply grease or even test for continuity on the circuit, remove a spring to disable a mech, I can do that but I need to be pointed in the right direction. camtechman any tech ideas ? |

Re: Technics SLJ110R Help
Hello again,
If it's definitely not user error, I would stick my neck out and say that it's a mechanical problem but this is rare with these. As you suggest, you could indeed disable the auto mechanism by removing the big white plastic gear that lives under the platter, if the mechanism is similar to almost all other turntables of this pedigree. Could you upload a video of it misbehaving to YouTube or whatever. Where in Oxford are you? N. |

XsamX 1987, As per my No:8 post.
"The operating instructions for this turntable are available from Vinyl Engine. As is the service manual". Again, just a few clicks away via Vinyl Engine. Hope this helps

Re: Technics SLJ110R Help
I have to agree. As far as I can see, I'm afraid the service manual is of no help at all in solving this problem.

Re: Technics SLJ110R Help
It's faulty. Assuming it was sold as working then take it back to wherever you bought it and get them to fix it or refund you.

Charity auction, they must have plugged it in and seen it move for a few seconds then turned it off again and sold it to me.
