There does not seem to be much information around on Murphy day, please can somebody explain what it is about, and what to expect.
Thanks Mike |

Re: Murphy Day
Murphy Day is an event held at Mill Green Museum, Bush Hall Lane, Mill green, Hatfield AL9 5PD.
It is this coming Sunday from 2pm to 5pm. Under the national heritage open day scheme the Mill (working water mill grinding flour), the Museum and the grounds are open to the public. We (The Murphy nutters) will be there in force with a pile of Murphy Radio's, consoles, radiograms and Televisions on display. Each year we have a different theme. This year is '80 years on' so we will be showing as many items from the 1938 production year as I can get out of the store (a couple of items are almost impossible to get at). There will also be various other Murphy items from our various collections. We regularly get ex-employees of Rank Bush Murphy which makes for some interesting chats. There are also other craft stalls with Jams, honey and various items for sale. The mill also does a really good afternoon cream tea! Come and say hello, it is easy to find and there is plenty of parking. Mike...

Re: Murphy Day 2018
I went to the last one but as far as I know didn't speak to any ex employees of RBM's. I would certainly try and find out as much as possible about the TVs and radios etc that we all like so much. but I don't think I can get to this event unfortunately. Cheers Neil.

I am going to try and get my family to come with me to visit tomorrow as I haven’t been to this event yet.

Re: Murphy Day 2018
I went along and enjoyed it. This is the first time I've been, because this event normally clashes with a local watermill open day (Pann Mill in High Wycombe).
I was amazed to see not one but two pre-war Murphy TVs (A56V and A58V) as well as a working 1948 model, seen on the right of the A58V. There were a couple of Murphy radios made in New Zealand under licence, with different chassis to their British relatives. As well as the working watermill which is fascinating to watch, there's a museum with a store room that also contains some Murphy TV and radio sets, plus lots of old tools and appliances, like a carpet beater and a gas-fired refrigerator, for example. I've attached a few pictures. The mill and gardens are pictured on the official website http://www.welhat.gov.uk/mill |

Re: Murphy Day 2018
Some pictures of Murphy day at Mill green Museum.
The display was generally centred around models from 1938 Unfortunately I was unable to get the A48RG radiogram and A50C console out of my store without moving a huge amount to get at them. There were also a selection of Murphy Export receivers. A couple from New Zealand, one for the Asia Pacific region, an Irish market model and a radio that came back from India as a kit of parts wrapped just in newspaper, cardboard and string! Mike...

And more!
The A46 sits upon an original Gordon Russell radio table.

Re: Murphy Day 2018
And finally...
The first picture is a Murphy B47C battery console receiver with a large and very sensitive speaker with a high flux. It was marketed as being as good as a mains set for volume and sensitivity. It does work quite well with the Push Pull output. Mike...
