Re: New project. A 1957 bakelite GEC (Identified as a BT1155)
Last installment of the BT1155 restoration. Here she is all back in her box and looking fresh as a daisy. The few remaining faults were quite straightforward. The low sound was simply the speaker, which had been ravaged by years of damp and what was left of the cone was stuck fast to the speaker core.
The baffle board that the speaker is screwed to was also pretty rotten so I took it to work with me and copied it using a new bit of ply. The cloth is quite high quality and survived being removed, cleaned, and reglued! Beyond this the contrast fault was a high 1meg resistor. Replacing this restored normal operation. The cabinet came up well with a good wash and several goes with T cut, polish, and beeswax. Then it all went back together and is giving a good account of itself. Very pleased with this one. |

Thankyou indeed!
Next up is going to be my bakelite Pye VT2 which I'm going to revisit 5 years on. It has a frame sync fault which no doubt I'll probably need advice on... First I need to make some space!! Matt |

A true kitchen worktop restoration by the look of things! Well done Matt, the GEC looks really great. Well worth the effort.
Being a fan of period films I can take a guess that you were watching the British Lion release 'A Home Of Our Own' - one of my faves! Steve |

Great seeing another old set up and running, it must be very satisfying watching vintage films / programs on it.

Great job And worked on without a workshop or shed judging by the pictures.

Quite right Gents was all done indoors in the kitchen (when the missus was out so no moaning) and then finished off in my makeshift Radio & Television den where I often hide away to watch vintage programes like 'A home of your own' which is also one of my favourites Steve! Our hobbies can get quite obsessional don't you think!?

That has turned out very well indeed, I swear by T-cut not only for Bakelite, it works well on wooden cabinets too.
Good luck with the Pye, I am saving my set until the winter months... Mark |
