Re: Ceramic and Crystal cartridge specs.
Excellent work!
Does anyone know what the difference between the various BSR stylus types such as ST12/14/15/19 actually is? Also the list is a bit light on Ronnette, see further attached data from a Finnish website. The TX88 showed what could be achieved in frequency response and fidelity from a crystal cartridge. Even 'Gramophone' magazine were impressed! Regards, Paul |

To answer your question: ST12 is LP/78, both sapphire. ST14 LP/78, but LP tip is diamond. ST15 dual diamond LP tips. ST19 is single diamond tip (not flipover). Thank you for the Ronette info. Will add it to the next update.

Re: Ceramic and Crystal cartridge specs.
Excellent information Ben.
The TC8S had a recommended tracking weight of 5 to 9 gms, usually set to 7 gms in the BSR changers. Regards David |

Re: Ceramic and Crystal cartridge specs.
Just a quick update to say I'm working on a second edition of that chart incorporating data contributions made since the first was uploaded.
I'm still after the following data: BSR -SX5M, SX5H: output, tracking force. -SC7M: output, tracking force. SONOTONE -8T: tracking force -9TA (original): tracking force. RONETTE: -TO284 : Stylus reference. I also have a new section for PHILIPS heads and am after data for the following modules: GP214, GP215.

Re: Ceramic and Crystal cartridge specs.
Hi Ben,
I think the Ronette 284 came in 2 versions, the screw held Pfanstiehl ref. 700 (Collaro Studio type) and later ones had the clip-in version, Pfansteihl ref. 702 (Ronette 105 type). I have a later one but it's packed somewhere safe so I can't check for you, sorry. Looking at a Vernitron leaflet that came with a 9TAHC I bought recently it says the following: 2T: 9 grams 8TA4: 5 grams 9TA: 2-4 grams. All to be loaded with 1-2 megohm HTH Regards

Re: ERC compat X2 cartridge.
Copied from this thread: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=143847
I have a Compat C cartridge, the box and information sheet say "Stereo Compatible Mono Cartridges" and contain the following data: "Compat X - Medium Output Crystal Cartridge, output 225mv, VTF 3-5g, load 1MΩ 100pF Compat X2 - High Output Crystal Cartridge, output 525mv, VTF 6-9g, load 1MΩ 100pF Compat C - Medium Output Ceramic Cartridge, output 170mv, VTF 5-6g, load 1MΩ 100pF Electronic Reproducers (Components) Ltd. Hedley Road, St. Albans, Herts." These cartridges were also boxed and sold by Goldring.

Re: Ceramic and Crystal cartridge specs.
Addendum to #32 ; the production of ERC cartridges was taken over by Musonic who
seem to make them in batches dependant on demand. All the specs you may find useful are on the website. The 2SB is an excellent stereo ceramic cartridge with high compliance and channel separation (I have no commercial link); https://www.musonic.co.uk/index.php?...ducts_id=18711 |

Hi James
As far as I can remember, the only ceramic cartridge that had an elliptical stylus option was the Decca Deram. Tony |

Re: Ceramic and Crystal cartridge specs.
Hi!
Whilst I have plentiful knowledge of circuits, I've just realised one small piece of knowledge is missing from my knowledge store! The High Output Crystal and ceramic cartridges are mostly quoted as 600-1200 mV per cm/s, can someone enlighten me:- Is this linear or circumferential velocity, and what would the recorded velocity of a typical 45 rpm 1960s single, equated in cm/s be? This would enable me to estimate the p-p voltage at the cartridge O/P terminals, for use with valved or transistorised amplifiers! When I last repaired record-players I'd no oscilloscopes to hand in those days! Chris Williams

Re: Ceramic and Crystal cartridge specs.
Chris i asked this question a while ago, if you look under Components and Circuits, Cartridge Specification, you should find your answer.
I found it very interesting. Cheers John |

Addendum to #35 ; I had forgotten that Goldring produced an elliptical stylus for the
CS90 cartridge, which was denoted as CS91E. |
