Hi Chris the wire from the jumper goes to a board then two wires go to 2 EF85 valves around the tuning condenser there is a short in there somewhere I have managed to lift the tuning condenser up a bit at the back also a rear cover so can get to components it's tight in there .

Hi all just a quick update after unsoldering most of the components around the two EF85 valve sockets and what a pain it was anyway there was one cap 500v 10nf which was a dead short so replaced it along with some resistors and few more caps soldered everything back and I am pleased to say the set works well it's been on for most of the afternoon without drama . It works well on ssb and pretty stable .

That's brilliant - you've got there in the end! Well done for your perseverance. I think you were held up hugely by that wretched,broken-up schematic, which I found was almost impossible to follow.
