Default Fidelity HF45 BSR Spindle keeps jumping out.

Hello

I'm after some advice on how the spindle should operate on a HF45 changer BSR deck. I don't know the model of the actual deck i'm afraid. I've brought it back to life by cleaning and re-greasing but I can't get the spindle to stay in place.

I have repaired one of these before and the spindle clicked into place and stayed put! But this one is proving troublesome, it looks to me like something must click into the spindle groove inside the shaft, if that's the case, I'm not sure what I can do to repair this one.

Any ideas?

Your autochanger may be a BSR C109 or C123. Ensure you rotate the spindle until it engages before you press it home.

I have a vague recollection that there is a slot cut in the side of the shaft and that part of a length of longish spring wire protrudes through it which should then engage in the groove in the spindle, based on that either the spring wire is badly fitted, or missing or bent, or the shaft has been forcibly rotated which would mean the spring wire would no longer fit through the slot.....

.....Maybe.

I'm sure I've seen a picture of that arrangement somewhere on the net but I can't find it at the moment.

Lawrence.

My vote is on the spindle shaft having rotated to the wrong position, very likely if the turntable has been seized and an attempt to free it has involved rotating it.

A close up photo would help.

Absolutely agree. I had the same problem on a Fidelity HF43 only yesterday. The turntable had seized to it's shaft. Once it had been removed and all the usual cleaning and lubrication had been done, the spindle refused to seat properly and kept popping up when in operation. I couldn't see why it wasn't working until I twigged that the shaft had moved. There is a notch in it which should be at the 2'o'clock position for it to work as it should.

If you do need to turn the shaft, don't use pliers without padding the jaws or it will chew the metal.

That sounds like the solution I need!

Thinking back, I can picture the spring wire that needs to clip into the spindle groove and it's definitely in the wrong place.

It didn't occur to me that the spindle shaft had turned.

I'll get some padded grips on it tonight and let you know if we have some success.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Managed to get the spindle in place by twisting the spindle shaft back to where it should be. The Fidelity is back on form!

Thanks again for the help.
