Hi all,

I've just bought a Roberts Junior. Does anyone know if there is any asbestos in these?

Hi Gisli,

I can't see any or think of any reason there should be any. Asbestos was very rarely used in electrical equipment other than for its heat resisting properties, and nothing in the Junior gets hot (except deep within the valves of course!).

Paul is correct, this is a battery only radio requiring 90 volt and a 1.5 volt batteries, so there are no large power resistors to get hot. But if someone has converted it to mains operation requiring power resistors to drop the mains voltage, then who knows if they have added any heat insulation. A photo of the inside of the radio would help confirm.

Hi all,

I suspected this was the case but just wanted to check. I'll post a photo when I get it. The seller said it was not working, but the photo I saw did not look like it had been modified.
