Ferguson videostar 3v59
Picked up this ferguson 3v59 cheap, with the intention of doing my usual service, repair and clean. It looked promising in the advert.
However! It got badly damaged by the courier, not helped by poor packing. I glued the broken boards back together and repaired the tracks using bridging wires. Glued some of the pegs back in place but the type of plastic didnt respond well to loctite. Glue gun ahoy! Got the machine cleaned up and back together. Everything works albeit a strange fault. The machine rewinds fast forward and plays but only for a few seconds. I have traced the fault to the counter not increasing or decreasing even though the tape winds quite far. Does anyone know what the counter takes its signal from? As I suspect a sensor maybe faulty. Thanks again |

Re: Ferguson videostar 3v59
Hi
Yes the counter receives signal from the reel sensor. The sensor located near to the loading motor. Because the vcr is similar to the jvc HR-D170 the sensor is GP3A21 https://www.donberg.ie/descript/g/gp_3a21.htm If you are familiar you can short instantly the pins of the receiver of the photosensor if the circuit works the counter must increase or decrease. In jvc units it is a common problem. |

Re: Ferguson videostar 3v59
Funny you said that, as I did some research last night and came to that conclusion. I changed the sensor from my donor fv11r as it's the same deck. Bar a few revisions. It was the right hand reel sensor thankfully not the left, otherwise the gears would had to have come out.
The sensor was a right pita to get at. But it's all done and the machine works perfectly now. Thanks for your reply. |
