It’s the 4000 report IC. Thanks for the tip on getting at the speed adjuster. It’s definitely screwed in somehow. It’s removable but very awkward to get at. I don’t have a screwdriver suitable at the moment but reckon it’s do-able if I can find one. Have attached a photo I think but I’m doing this on my phone. Thanks for all your help!

It looks like you just need a normal reasonably long screwdriver to undo the screw which is attached to the front panel and then remove the tag which is holding the speed-change shaft down. You then need to reattach the dangling spring to the hook which projects from the hinge of the circuit board.
If you need to undo the screw at the other end of the speed-change lever be very careful as it is holding down a spring. You would also need to undo the two screws holding the motor in place and move it aside.
