Default Dansette Bermuda Mk2 1968

Hi, I have just got my player working since purchasing it a few years ago, can you tell me what the humming noise is when I turn the power on and also the stylus that is fitted is an ST20, is that the correct one?

Thanks, Alan.

We need to know the cartridge to say if the ST20 is correct, the cartridge could have been replaced at some time in the past. Photo may help.

Can you describe the hum, there at first switch on or after a few minutes? I think the player is valve but if you could confirm if it is transistor or valve that may also help.

Others will give better advice than I can but they need information to help.

Is the humming loud and does it start as soon as you switch it on?

If yes then the fault is almost certainly caused by failure of the main smoothing capacitor.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply, the hummimng starts has soon as you turn the power on, if the cartridge is the part that the needle sits in, I can't see any identification on it.

In which case, could you provide a photo or two?

Cannot help with the stylus.

The humming noise, the player uses a series heater chain for the valves, its possible they are fed from the motor so I can only think it is the motor you can hear.

The smoothing/reservoir capacitors mentioned earlier would only start the player humming after the valves warm up.

So you will probably need to check the motor and its mounting rubber bushes, unless others have a better suggestion.

Take note that this will be a live chassis player, take suitable precautions against electric shocks.

That is the correct stylus for that cartridge, however, it's not the original cartridge.

If the cartridge currently fitted is a BSR SC11M, you can still get replacement styli for these. Are the deck transit screws turned down (as they should be) to reduce vibrations/motor noise transmission?

Such a simple thing that it's automatic for those in the know, a good suggestion Edward.

Default Dansette Bermuda Mk 2

Hi,

When playing an LP record on auto, why does the stylus arm sometimes drop too early and not make contact with the record, also what is the humming sound when switched on and can it be eliminated.

Thanks
Alan

The stylus set down position can be easily adjusted. Your Thread has a gap of several months. So - is the humming a new type of hum or the same as before? Your player is valved and the we assume the hum starts after warm up.
