Default ALBANY HOUSE AM-108 Amplifier

Hi

My 2nd repair/restore is a Albany House AM-108 (70s Amp?). This is another junk shop rescue. Oddly its in amazing condition and look unused (have its box also).

Seems manuals/schematics are non existant. One generic one on here from 10 years ago but not sure how accurate it is so asking if anyone might happen to have an official one ?

Seems to power up OK but need to check what the old DIN style connectors pin out is so I can wire up a phono to DIN lead to test it. Do these old DIN connectors have a standard wiring ?

Cheers in advance.

The attachment might help with the DIN wiring question.

Hi,
As a spotty youth many moons ago, I had no idea how DIN sockets were wired. So, I poked the holes with a bit of bare wire and noted which ones produced a buzz on which channel.
The ones that didn't buzz were the outputs.
Cheers, Pete.

The Teleton SAQ-206B looks very similar but not identical. This link has the owner's manual and schematics which might be helpful:

Albany House I think was a buy now pay later outfit that sold some goods with their own brand name on. I think this is one of them as suggested above as a Teleton. It would probably been much cheaper as a Teleton from a local dealer.

OK after a few bad caps and replacing the faulty TIP31A the amp is back working...however......

The TIP 31A's get VERY HOT very quickly. Now I suddenly noticed that the compatible schematics show 2SD330 not TIP31A's Also a compatible 2SD330 is a TIP41C. Now I must admit to being a bit of a newbie with transistor replacements but could the TIP31A's be incorrect ?

Am I right in thinking the C,B,E specs are the same except it can take more current so a TIP41C would likely be able to deal with the heat/current better but operate the same ?

C,B,E layout and package are the same and TIP41C is a beefier device, but I would be surprised if that would make much difference to temperature in this amplifier.

I'd be looking hard at the output stages idle currents. They shouldn't get hot unless the amp is being run really hard if they're OK

I'll check at idle and running. See what the difference is...
