Default PARKSIDE Sharpening Station at Lidl - £14.99

Thought perhaps this may be of interest. I was thinking about getting one myself...

I have found that they don't put the correct back rake angle on drills, I can do better by hand.
If it is a diamond wheel, they might put an edge on t/carbide drills. Maybe once!

You're probably right - it looked like it might be useful but at that price it's unlikely to be very good. I kind of confirmed that when I enlarged the image.

Having said that, I do have some really great tools that cost next to nothing and they are still going strong today after many years of use. Swings and roundabouts, I suppose...

Thanks Sam.

I tried one last time they came out, it's absolute rubbish. The "diamond wheel" is a tatty bit of pressed steel, not quite concentric with the spindle, that's got very coarse diamond bits on the surface.

Took mine back for a refund.

I have just returned from shopping at Lidl for food and whilst there, I purchased one of the Sharpening Station. The grind wheel is rubbish. I will be returning it tomorrow

Sharpening drills on a grindwheel is a bit a of a knack, once you have got it any old cheap grinding wheel will do.

Phew!

There was one left in Witney yesterday when I bought one of the little toolkits but I convinced myself that my bench grinder and the funny little Eclipse thing from years back that rocks drill bits back and forth over a sheet of wet'n'dry were enough to be going on with and bought 2 pints of semiskimmed instead.

I was in Lidl yesterday to get one of their 18V cordless drills (£29.99), mainly to use as an electric screwdriver now that I am getting an arthritic wrist, and I am pleased with it. I saw the sharpening station, and am now glad I resisted temptation.

I found one of these and it was indeed worth buying a tap the correct size to make it fit on a disk cutter.

I got a refund from Lidl no problem, I expect they'll be getting a fair few returns?

When I bought the sharpener I also bought a pair of their digital callipers for £9.99. Now that is a good price compared to a 'proper' pair and they seem good. But scanning Ebay I found what look to be identical instruments for as little as £1.20
