Default Soft close lid damper for radiograms

Does anyone know how to repair the soft close lid dampers as fitted to 1950's and 1960's radiograms?

Can't help with repair but there are plenty gas struts on Amazon for kitchen cabinets if you cannot repair the original.

I think on ones I've repaired I just put some 3 in 1 oil into the cylinder to mix with the drying out grease and moved the piston back and forth until a good seal was obtained. Then you find the lid takes too long to close but most have a screw on the end of the cylinder which you can adjust to let air out more quickly.
