Default A Decca Colour TV, but which chassis?

Hi,
as we have a small amount of snow here ( so I am staying inside ) I thought I would ask a question.
well This is a Decca Colour Tv which has been heavily modified, but just wondered if anyone knew which model it was ? Sorry for the quality of the pictures.

Hi Peter.

It looks like it could be a set fitted with the decent Decca 70 chassis introduced in 1979. This chassis was designed to drive 14 and 16 inch tubes and is mains isolated, an essential requirement if being used as a monitor.

Regards
Symon.

EDIT: It always seemed strange to me that the Decca 70/90/110 series of chassis which were all mains isolated were replaced with the 120/130 series that had a live chassis, a retrograde step IMHO.

Hi,
that is very helpful info, thank you !
pleased to know the chassis is mains isolated ! ( I will check this before powering it up )
I was rather worried otherwise.

Hi

From memory the 70/90/110 series of chassis were vertically mounted, the later 120/130 etc chassis were horizontally mounted.

Symon.

hi, this looks like the later version, using the 120 series chassis, the one with the 70 series chassis had only 3 channel preset buttons and a rotary tuner operated by button 4 .this seems to be the later tatung /decca variant with an 8 way button unit .

Pop the back off. If there's a large, vertical PCB with the tube's neck poking through a central cutout, then it's the 70 (etc.) series.

Hi,
here are some more photos...
sorry it is late.
it does have a large vertical pcb with the tube neck poking through it...
but does also have a 8 way button unit. it is possible it is a prototype chassis...
and yes the chassis is isolated. not a Mullard crt in this one.

Do I see a bent pin on the CRT?
Yes, it's a 70 series chassis. It's been somewhere a bit damp as the white stuff on the presets shows. Not too serious, though. Possibly a new main electrolytic would be in order too. It's probably a limited production set for monitor use.

Hi

Yes a 70 chassis. I really liked the 70/90/110 series, they were very reliable and nice to work on. I remember looking after a customer's remote control 26" 110 series (30AX CRT) in a decent cabinet with doors (on par with Dynatron etc.) Very little went wrong with that set and I was always happy to work on this series of Decca chassis. I preferred these to the later 120 series, though they were good as well. I think the 70 series spanned from about 1979 to 1981.

Symon.

Hi,
yes I noticed the bent pin on the crt ! then it is a series 70, but modified for monitor use. The main smoothing cap has seen better days.
thanks for all the help ...
