Chris - and anyone else interested...

Copy of the User Manual for the Goodmans 150 and a copy of the Hi-Fi News review. I still have my 150 (must be over 30 years old now) and it is in regular use albeit in the summer house! The livid green colour is no longer acceptable to SWMBO - says it doesn't match the colour scheme indoors.

I also have and use a Module 90; whoever built these, they were built to last.

Thank you for the information.
It is a shame that Goodmans seem to be largely ignored in the Classic Hi Fi world.
I am now inspired to search for a second hand 150!

Regards

Hello,

Thorn acquired Goodmans when it took over Radio Rentals in 1968. Radio Rentals had owned Goodmans for some time prior to that and the Goodmans Maxamp & Stereomax products were made in the Baird TV factory in Bradford.

Chris

I note the photos you posted of the Goodmans One Ten internals.

I've just joined this forum and am searching for photos of equipment I used to own. The Goodmans 110 was the receiver in my first true hi-fi setup I purchased here in Sydney in 1974. It was a great receiver in its time. I replaced it with a Rotel RX802 receiver a few years later. i'm not sure that was an improvement.

I would be really grateful if you would post a photo of the externals of the Goodmans 110, so I can include it in my collection of pics of my former equipment.

Although it's not completely on topic, I've always been a fan of UK hi-fi equipment ... I have a Linn LP12 I purchased new in 1983 and am still "in love" with it. My most recent acquisition is a NaimUniti ... what a versatile, great sounding piece of equipment.

Default Finished repairing my Goodmans One-Ten

Hello

as this thread is still alive, I'm happy to tell you I've just finished the overhaul of my recently bought One-Ten, thanks to the SM you provided.
Had a problem of noise coming from the stereo lamp circuit: I've fixed it by replacing C96, 0.22 microfarad, with a much bigger cap, 47 micro.

Sound is beautiful, tremendous power and dynamic range (thanks to the hefty PS diodes, I think). A bit too sensitive to AC fields (wireless LAN) and spurious noises.

My brother has a 150 with no output from the left speaker. Does anyone have the service data so I can take a look at it. Thanks, Mike.

To everybody,

hi all, was very pleased to find a recent thread covering the Goodmans 110.

Thank you for all the postings.

I just dug my old receiver out again (bought in England in 1973/74) and am delighted that it works (almost) perfectly.

Thanks also to Jim for posting the Manual.

I get tremendous crackling over the speakers when I adjust the volume, but then everything is fine. Until I have to touch the volume control again. I haven't a clue about electronics, but I think if I study Jim's diagram I might find out what that thingme that is causing all the noise is called.

It says 40K + 60K 9021 8 A2 on the little round element behind the volume knob.

Which takes me to Vick in Moscow. If you still need some photos of the inside of the receiver, I have mine open at present and would be glad if I can be of any help.

So regards to all and

Good Listening

Sean

The thingme that's causing the noise is called 'Dust'. Spray some switchcleaner into a convenient orifice in the volume control, operate the control a few times over its full extent and the problem should go away.

Should that not sort it out, we'll start a seperate thread for this one as it'll need further investigation.

Thank you Darren for your swift reply.

I'll be in town tomorrow and will see if I can find some switchcleaner.

Will post again in a day or two.

Cheers,

Sean

Hi Darren,

just to let you know it WORKED!

I got myself a can of 'Caramba' Elektronikreiniger (electronic cleaner) for €10 on the net and hey presto...

No more crackling.

Thanks a million for your tip.

Kind Regards

Sean

More evidence of Thorn's involvement... Have a look at the pic on this service manual that a kind patient's just given me. This appears to be very similar, both inside and out, though with a considerably less powerful output stage.
