Rapid's version of this has a couple of extra ranges and is over 50 quid not including VAT

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
I saw that a few weeks ago. It’s on my todo list to find the OEM. I’m sure you can get one for a trivial amount from abroad somewhere.

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
That Rapid one claims to be True RMS. The Maplin Pro stays silent on this matter so I assume it... isn't.

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
The MT2017 is no longer available to order online.
There seem to be three left in the Belfast store. |

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
Probably down to forum members snapping up the remaining stock!
Mine was C&C, but it's not available for collection yet. When I collect it I'll see if there's anything else of interest in the store.

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
The Proskit MT-2017 is still available on Ebay, but prices are in the £25+ region.....
No discussion, please!

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
Just when I thought that if I like it, I'll order more....(no idea why, just collecting habits!)
...well at least earlier in the week I ordered two. Very glad I did when I did!

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
Picked my second one up today. It's been redesigned when compared to the picture in the link. The 10A socket is now at centre bottom and the transistor test sockets are in a different position.

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
I ordered one on Sunday after reading this thread - a proper bargain.
Just got an email from Maplin saying it's out of stock and on back order. I suspect I won't be getting one |

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
I picked up my two MT2017's yesterday. Lovely little meters and I checked it out with a calibrator, appears just as accurate as my Fluke's and Avo's.
Shame they're out of stock now, as I'd probably buy more, I don't know why I would, but I just would.

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
I bought one last year, paid 20 quid, then they reduced them, lol. A decent meter for what they are, I just needed it for one particular job where a digital just wasn't suitable. Mind you, you can never have enough meters can you.

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
My second one arrived yesterday. For any inexperienced readers of this forum l would recommend that you reduce the risk of causing a short circuit by shielding the majority of the metal tip until only the last couple of millimeters is visible, as in the lower probe.
The right-hand set of probes is supplied with the meter, the ones on the left-hand side cost more than £25.00 but as I'm holding one of them when measuring voltages l think it's a good investment. A good way to do this is to take the supplied probe protector and file it back and taper it.

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
I don't know what the plans are regarding the wind-up of the Maplin operation, but if there is enough interest in the internet outlet offers, someone might decide that there's a business case for a continuing internet-only vestigial Maplin sourcing and importing container-loads of stuff like this. (BTW, I rue the use of the term "importing"- but it's the way of the world, really....)

Re: 'Proper' multimeter (Maplin MT2017)
For anyone fortunate enough to be receiving their MT2017 meters, I suggest you fit some batteries and check them. I received 2X MT2017 today, fortunately one or the two appears to be working fine.
The second meter is not working properly - resistance scale cannot be zero'ed, and the meter 'returns' to wherever it feels like, but not 0 (or infinite for the resistance scale). Before anyone suggests the batteries, the EXACT same batteries are working perfectly with the other meter. No great financial loss, but annoying none the less. Waiting to hear from Maplin... |
