Hi, I have question about my Philips 22 RH 814/15Z. what is that thing on the left? And what does it? I have no idea. Added 2 pictures.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

That looks like a "Dust Bug" type cleaner for cleaning records as they're played. They generally consist of a brush and a fluffy roller. A cleaning agent is applied to the roller.

They also work quite well dry.

Mounted where yours is, the roller end should be pointing rightwards, not forward.

I just have to say what wonderful condition your lid is in for something probably 40 years old!

Looks like the BIB version of the Dust Bug.

Yes, much superior to the original Cecil Watts version IMHO though the aluminium tube can wear where the pivot pin pokes through which makes the arm sticky in the vertical plane, meaning that the brush and roller don't contact the record properly.

I use one every day for playing my records.

The BIB cleaner was/is well regarded. My own experience is that with a relatively lightweight platter/motor torque combination on that excellent Philips deck, there might be some slight drag. There is much written here, and tomes elsewhere, about on-deck record cleaners and sometimes it's not at all conclusive. If for some reason you decide to de-clutter the deck and remove it, do take care when taking off that sticky pad on the black support pillar.

I have the auto version of the deck (only) with its little minimalist umbrella spindle operation, it's always a pleasure to watch working (and listen of course!).
