Default How valves are made.

Saw this on TV recently:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n4WVRKkmww

Unfortunately it's not the UK version with commentary by Tony Hirst.

Interesting that, first time I have seen a modern construction system. Looks very similar to the CRT reconditioning process which I watched many times.

Thanks for posting that.

Very interesting to see a film of modern production.

I'd be curious to see just what they are making as the main valve featured was on a 4-pin base and another one looked very like an R-Type.

That's great for a 1930's 845 triode, but lets see him hand make something marginally more modern like an EABC80 using those methods.

I watched it at lunch at work, without any audio. It looked good.

Now I've played it at home with audio, I'm helpless. Listen to the commentary after the mention of the top secret black coating on the anode.... Oh boy, not a clue.

Hi,
Interesting that reference is made to the 'anode', rather than the 'plate' which is the usual American terminology.
Cheers, Pete.

Could be because the series was originally made by Canadians.

Those kronzilla "toobs" are very expensive as you'd imagine, and the big one is a special original development by KR for their own Amp. Personally I don't knock them, they have found a niche market and are satisfying a demand at the high end of the market and appearance matters as much as performance. And at least they are helping prevent the pillaging of PX25 output triodes.
I read a review of their big amp. Very impressive and at the price of a decent house here in the north east I'd expect them to be a bit special.
Its the Bling end of the market, all markets have them.
We all know that my Sekonda quartz watch will keep exactly the same time as a Cartier or Patek Phillipe but that don't make them a bad thing or a rip off. Luxury for its own sake, its always existed. And you gotta admire the craftsmanship involved.

Andy.
