BAT VR 1000 Solus Voltage Stabiliser
I happened to salvage a vintage Voltage Stabiliser that was being thrown out of an old house in Iceland. When I saw the size of those transformers I couldn't pass it up, despite my back protesting.
This thing is in pretty bad shape, and has some sawdust caked on there, but I think it should at least have some salvageable parts. It's monstrously heavy (easily 20-30 KG). Have not opened it yet (I just got it a few hours ago). I'm letting the thing dry a bit before I open it, clean out the sawdust and investigate further. My questions are: 1) Is anyone familiar with the company that made this? I can see it says "BAT" but I find very few references to that company. I assume they made industrial electronics but that's just me guessing. 2) Does anyone have an idea what "Solus" is referring to? |

Re: BAT VR 1000 Solus Voltage Stabiliser
Back in the late fifties & early sixties Claude Lyons were famous for their mains voltage stabilizers using motor controlled variacs and other types of CVT's.
It looks like an example of the latter. The "insides" should be interesting! Orakle42. |

Some voltage stabilisers are basically a special transformer and a capacitor.
