Default Vocalion bargain 30s to 50s music CDs

If like me you love light music, this clearance listing is well worth a look.

Lots of excellent 30s dance band bargains, plus some nice 50s and 60s material including Robert Farnon, Jack Parnell, Ted Heath, Ken Mackintosh and their orchestras- all fixtures of the BBC Light Programme. At £3 to £5 a pop, there are plenty of discs here which would sound excellent through vintage radios. Nice artwork on many of the CDs too!

Well worth trawling through the 8 or so pages as there are some gems.

Oh, thanks, Steve! As a result, I've just spent nearly 30 quid on great music which my wife will tell me I don't need...

There are, as you say, bargains aplenty.

Phil

Well Phil I've put my money where my mouth is too! I'm sure Mrs G4SPZ will change her tune when she hears the digitally remastered delights you've ordered...

I think Vocalion is a label worth supporting. I've never been disappointed with any of their CDs and they give the impression the discs are compiled with a genuine love of the music.

Happy listening!

Lots of nice stuff on their website. Shame they don't respect the Distance Selling Regulations. http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/returnspolicy.asp

DSR can be found here: http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/bus...ral/oft698.pdf

Aren't they legally obliged to adhere to the DSR? Has anyone questioned them about it?

Dave.

Problem is the disks are obtained, copied and then returned for refund. J.

Not sure whether this is taking us off topic, but I was assuming that these discs are new, sealed and boxed; maybe I missed something to the contrary in the small print. I'll report back any problems when my order arrives.

See clause 3.38 in the reference I gave to the DSR regarding sealed software, CDs etc. No problem for vendor to stick to the rules.

The DSR are indeed mandatory. Quite a few vendors have terms that are in breach, including some household names until they were pulled up by the authorities.

Despite all this I'm still tempted to order.

This clause in the DSRs seems to cancel the requirement to not unseal CDs etc.:

Quote:
Do the exceptions at paragraph 3.38 referring to, for example,
computer software apply generally to products that may be
the subject of copyright, for example books or sheet music?

3.40 No. There is no general exception for copyright products and in our
view the exception would not extend to other products that may lend
themselves to being copied such as books or sheet music. But this
does not stop you from specifying in your terms and conditions
what you consider to be reasonable care in examining such goods.
However, if the consumer has done no more than examine the
goods as they would have in a shop and if that requires opening
the packaging and trying out the goods
then they would not have
breached their duty to take reasonable care of the goods. In a shop,
books and sheet music are usually displayed unsealed and therefore
opening such seals does not invalidate the right to cancel.
Would you agree with my interpretation?

Regards,

Dave.

In shops CDs are often sealed. The customer would be expected not to break the seal until he had bought the CD. Hence same under DSR.

If it was the only copy they had and you wanted to hear it before buying it, they would, presumably, do so, so why not if bought on-line?

Regards,

Dave.

Phil, just to reassure you the CDs are all brand new to the best of my knowledge. I've got half-a-dozen on the way and can't wait!
