Default Conservation/Restoration Radio 4

There have been more threads on the issues around this on here recently. As part of a discussion re University v Practical Apprenticeship on Saturday Live today, a suggestion, by the inventor of the Kenwood Chef, that "mending things" should be at Uni level was quoted. A listener rang in to say he was already doing a degree in this area at Lincoln. Bournemouth is another centre [or used to be] and a Professor there wrote a contriversial "guidance" paper in relation to electronics a few years ago. Ths all particularly caught my attention as it strongly relates to this sites ethos. Also I was intigued when one of the Forum members previously said that he intended to go into this area, possibly because Radio/TV repair is not much of an option these days. The comments are at 25min in on I-Player but I would recommend the whole edition to anyone interested.

It has been said (here too, and by me) that I would pay more for a broken thing so I had to fix it. The great advantage of fixing something is that you know it worked before. Unlike designing new stuff (the day job) where it isn't sure it will work to start with. Also repairing stuff gives you an insight in design practice of the day.
