Garrard SP25 MKIV. Not playing through a whole side.

Hi. I've recently been given an old Garrard SP25 MKIV, it's the first 78rpm playing turntable I've had, I've been using portable wind up gramophones for years.
I fitted a new 78 stylus, all sounds great but when it gets toward the end of the record it gets stuck in one of the final grooves and keeps skipping and won't progress. It's on every record I've tried from my collection.
I know there's a way to reset the stop point of the arm but I've no idea how to go about it and thus far Google has not offered any solutions.
Anyone able offer some advice? It should be known that I am a inept with anything handy so step by step advice for an idiot would be great...

In case you were confused about the reference to a Garrard "Autoslim", this uses a very similar end-of-record-trip-and-return mechanism as your Garrard SP25.

Ah, thank you. I actually read that thread but misunderstood what it talks about, which shows just how awful at anything even remotely technical I am.
I'll have a read and try to get it all cleaned up. Thanks.

Me again.
That worked but in my cackhandness, I snapped the brackets that house the big screws that secure the turntable to the unit...
It's secure enough still by the looks (doesn't seem to be any movement) but do I need to replace these as a matter of urgency?

Do you mean the flipovers on the transit screws? (The screws through springs which are ONLY used to secure the turntable when the player is being moved about.)


If you do, then don't worry, the screws are not tightened up for normal use, the turntable should float on the springs.


So undo (well actually screw down) the transit screws if you have got the turntable "secured"!

If it's something else, a photo would positively identify which screws you mean.

There's no urgency, the deck will work fine without them. Put an advert in the "For sale and Wanted" section. They are called "Transit screw clips", and someone is bound to let you have a couple. They were used in a wide variety of Garrard decks, and are by no means rare.

Yes, those are the ones! I wasn't sure if they were to secure the turntable when transporting the whole unit or something more essential. That's great. Thank you folks.

Ah, Garrard transit clips! I broke one on the first Garrard I repaired, before I realised you don’t need to remove them to extract the deck; just flip them through 90 degrees.

Me too.....I think breaking a transit clip is a right of passage !

I must be the exception to the rule. I used to carefully ease them off with no breakages as far as I remember. Then when I was about 11 or 12, the penny dropped and I realised what a clever design they were.

The clever trick for removing Dual decks from their plinths is another well-kept secret. I have seen at least one comment on the web in which someone declared that Dual turntables were sealed and not designed to be disassembled, so when theirs went faulty, they threw it away!

Too few people read the instructions!

The Garrard ones do go sideways all too easily and can be frustrating to put back.

Yes, we're spoilt for easily-available service data (and your excellent tutorials) these days. But back in the dark ages when I started playing with these, Garrard had gone out of business and the internet would have seemed like a far-fetched fanatasy.

Well, we've well covered the saga of the transit screws, but I wonder how the OP is now getting on with his original problem? So let's hope the Stickys have helped....

In post #6 he said the problem was fixed but he had broken the transit clips.
