Without numbers on the scale, how does that work ? Presumably if you want to know where the control is set you have to count round manually from zero to whichever (moving) scale mark is opposite the (fixed) mark on the panel ?

Somewhere out in the shed I may have a bit of gear with very similar knobs/skirts (too cold to go look for it at the moment).

ISTR that the style in your pic was used where no 'actual' value or 'quantity' was needed but rather just the relative position of the control.

There would be a mark/indication printed on the panel at the 12 o'clock position corresponding to the control being centered in it's travel.
