Philips P3371
Hello, I have a Phillips p3371 computer which was working, then the next time I switched it on the post gave a series of beeps and there was no video display. Has anyone come accross this before and if so were you able to repair it? A friend suggested fitting a separate video card but I would value your opinion before purchaseing a card only to find a conflict between the onboard motherboard video circuits and the isa video card. Any help much appreciated.

Re: PHILLIPS p3371
If you can find the manual for it, or even if it is an IBM clone and therefore the workings are the same, you need to look for the diagnostics section and count the number of beeps - the documentation will tell you what those beeps mean.

Re: Philips P3371
I don't know the meaning of the beep sequence, but can I make a quick suggestion which is to remove a memory card and try again. If no change, then put the card back and remove another. Keep doing this until all the memory cards have been swopped out once.
I have had computers where the symptoms you describe were due to a failed memory card. Last edited by SteveCG; 20th Sep 2019 at 12:08 pm. Reason: extra text |

Re: Philips P3371
Thanks again for your replies. The machine I have is a strange one in that I have several boards sitting on the bottom of the case which makes it difficult to separate different stages. The memory seems to be in solder in chips rather than plug in modules. I will post a photograph later when I get time.

Re: Philips P3371
Is it a "Made in Canada" model?

Re: Philips P3371
Hello again, yes this computer is a Canada Model, as you can see in the photos
it is pretty grotty inside but I have managed to get my problem sorted. I have a 486 machine which was used at my old workplace for programming Philips FM1100 radios, I swapped the hard drive from this machine into the 486 and now it works and I can program my radios. |

Re: Philips P3371
Are you still going to try to get the Philips going again?

Re: Philips P3371
It seems the P33xx series was also marketed as PCDxxx and maybe others as well. Probably one of their last own models. Unfortunately, I couldn't really find any information.

Re: Philips P3371
Thanks again for your replies, there is a radio rally coming up next month and possibly someone may have an ISA video card, if not I will strip out anything useful such as power supply and floppy drive and dispose of it.

Re: Philips P3371
Hello all, further to my postings about this machine. I got an ISA video card but no success so I stripped it of useful bits and the rest will go to the local tip. The memory seemed to be smd chips on the mother board rather than the usual plug in memory cards so this model is not easy to faultfind or repair.
