Vidor CN353 power switch - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

The Vidor CN353 is a small (for the time perhaps 'very small') 4 valve portable radio.

The power switch (3 leaf contacts) is supposed to close when the lid opens, and open when you shut the lid again. Mine doesn't, although the contacts work fine when I press the button by hand.

If anyone has one of these receivers :

1) How far above the white top panel does the switch actuator button (below the left corner of the speaker grille) stand up?

2) Is there anything (rubber pad?) fixed inside the lid to press this button?

Hello Tony,

1) About 2mm.

2) Yes. Could possibly be rubber hardened by time, but on my set at least it is very hard and could just as well be bakelite. Here's a photo, it's a rod of about 5mm length (plus a very small central pip) and 4mm diameter.

Thanks, that explains it. The button/actuator on my set is fine, the button-thing on the lid is missing. I can't see any mark as to where it once was, but I am sure I can make up something and fit it.
