HMV radiogram
Hi,
I'm trying to identify the radio chassis in a HMV radiogram of circa 50/60s vintage. I think I can make out "Model 453 Serial 1828" but it's not very legible at all. The set has 4 valves, ECH81, EF89, EBC81, EL84 and uses a bridge rectifier B250 C75. It has LW, MW, and SW. Some resistors look like they may have been overheating. Looking to get a service manual in order to restore but can't find the model. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks |

Re: HMV radiogram
Photos of the chassis and the cabinet may help.

Re: HMV radiogram
Without any photos to go by and judging by the use of Mullard valves, this might well be one of the first Thorn built HMV models from early 1955.

Re: HMV radiogram
Most home market HMVs of that period had VHF. Yours may be an Irish variant which could be tricky to pin down......

Re: HMV radiogram
Hi,
Thanks for replies. I've attached some pictures which may help. This radiogram was purchased in Ireland which may be relevant ? Of sentimental value to family and would really like to restore to working order. Thanks again, Colm |

Re: HMV radiogram
The valve line up is very standard, if you can’t find a circuit, I have had a look around, use one from a set using a similar valve line up and also use the information from valve data books.
There should be enough details to sort the radio out. For the record player deck, see the sticky items for servicing these items, there may be a manual for the deck in the link at the top of this page. If you have no experience of repairing radios, see this link for lots of useful information. https://www.vintage-radio.com/repair...ion/index.html

Re: HMV radiogram
The deck is BSR's model UA8.

Re: HMV radiogram
The BSR UA8 would date the Radiogram from mid 1956 onwards to about 1958/59. Note the original BSR TC8M Mono only cartridge is still fitted.
