Default Radiomobile 1070 connections.

Hello new on here, I have been given an old Radiomobile 1070 that I might fit in my Stag, age old problem of buttons too small on new stuff. I'd like to see if it works before I consider having it modified. There are three wires coming out of it, white / black / purple. Which would be the power lead?

Thanks in advance, Geoff.

The black/white twin pair is loudspeaker, purple is 12V, earth connects direct to case.

The polarity of the set is adjustable, make sure it's correct for your car.
It is unfortunately quite likely that one or more of the AF117 transistors in the set will have succumbed to internal shorts (tin whisker disease) and may need to be replaced.

The radio museum shows black and white wires for the speaker and a red wire which would be the supply live, either positive or negative depending on the car, I assume the chassis is the other power connection.
So you need to just make sure you have the polarity switch on the radio set correctly for your car.
The thick wire on the right is the antenna connector.
This radio contains AF117 transistors which are known to be unreliable and I would be surprised if the radio will work with out it being serviced by someone who knows what they are doing.

The circuit is in the RTS books and is available as a download on the service data link at top of page.

A slightly clearer picture of the polarity switch. There should be no need to open the radio just to check it. Make sure the speaker wires don't touch anything else.

Thanks for the replies everyone, when I've got my hands on a speaker I'll bench test it.
