having just completed work on this player one small fault still remains,Bass distortion, good volume no hum treble fine speaker good cart and stylus ok,i have noticed on some occasions that on switch on it lets out a high pitch note, only for a milli second, any ideas out there please

Re: dansette prince
My first thought would be faulty capacitors.
I would check all the power supply smoothing and bypass capacitors. |

Re: dansette prince
Just a thought....the high pitch note only for a fraction of a second....possible instability? Could be a few 10's of Khz say 20 or 30Khz....? could start of low for a fraction of a second and then ramp up to HF. This will cause distortion but the only way you'll see it is with a scope.
Certainly as suggested above a good place to start will be smoothing and bypass (decoupling) capacitors.

Re: dansette prince
You say you have “just completed work on this player”, have you replaced any components etc.

Re: dansette prince
Is this the valve or transistor version?

Re: dansette prince
Interesting question, I only have the valve, UCL82, version circuit diagram, didn’t realise they made a transistor version. I did wonder, however, when he said it gave out a high pitched note when switched on, obviously if it was transistor you would hear it immediately, not so with valve.

Re: dansette prince
l've just had a very similar issue on a Hacker valve record player and the fault was the grid coupling capacitors
Replaced both and the fault disappeared. This is a valve amplifier though, not sure if yours is valve or transistor? |

Re: dansette prince
sorry should have mentioned this is the transistor version, and in an answer to a previous question no components changed at present ,work carried out has been mostly mechanical and cleaning pots etc,,looking today i have noticed a defective cap across the pick up connection strip(1nf)which is in series with a 6.8k resistor, with this now disconnected temporarily the distortion has almost gone ,i have ordered replacement parts

Re: Dansette Prince.
OK so I've replaced the defective cap and the distortion is still there, I'm trying to get a download for the circuit but it doesn't seem to be available any info would be good.

Re: Dansette Prince.
Are they the same? Is the later version of the "Prince" that you have made by Dansette or by Rank-Bush-Murphy?

Re: Dansette Prince.
so after a period away doing other things decided to turn my attention back to this unit ,powered it up and the distortion seem to be worse than before ,caps rechecked and seem within tolerance ,cartridge is good ,so i wondered maybe an output transistor maybe to blame ?and it was indeed the case ,AC176 was the prob ,so changed that with the 128 as well ,it sounds like new ,worth the effort
