Default Nicholas Parsons + Vintage Clips

NP was interviewed in the BBC1 religious slot this morning to coincide with his 91st Birthday. I did know that he worked in the Glasgow Shipyards during WW2 despite being a Home Counties Public School boy and have seen other footage but this program was quite exceptional both in it's moving story and in the way it was produced and edited. Many of the vintage clips [radios/studios etc] were familiar but something about the way they were inserted into the discussion was very effective and the whole thing was very interesting on every level.

On or two shots of restored hardware. Had Forum members any input. Recommended to everyone not just Quiz Show/Paul Merton fans. The clips from the Arthur Haynes Show [again familiar] where the two actors are corpsing, remain hilarious. I was quite surprised both by how good this was overall.

Unfortunately I just caught the tail end of the program. We share the same birthday and possibly for that reason I usually take an interest when he's on the box. I have a feeling he is a radio ham possibly a G2 three letter.

It's on I Player for 30 days John! The Radio Amateur notion is a new one on me but I wouldn't rule it out as he is very versatile. Of course if you Google him the terms amateur [theatrics] and Radio come up all the time but no Call Sign. The Glasgow experience was definetely not "Wireless" engineering. However, his book about "Just A Minute R4" appears on the Powell's books Internet page listing bundled with a volume on Crystal Sets so maybe there is a confusion there.
